What can we learn from Native Americans?"
I alla fall fick jag svar från tidningen: "That was really great!"
Inga frågor alls. Underligt.
For many people, Natives all over the world have been the symbol for living in harmony with Mother Earth, being able to listen to the messages in the wind, the trees, the water and the earth. Their spiritual connection and comprehensive view has intrigued us for decades. But what has aroused our curiosity has also been one of the reasons for taking, using and abusing Native peoples´ way to healing.
All of us, wherever we come from, have had ancestors who lived in symbiosis with Mother Earth. They nourished her, healed her and looked after her needs. They understood the balance of life. They understood the responsibility of being entrusted Mother Earth for a short period of time, eventually leaving her to their children and grandchildren. And – finally – to us.
Trying to take over Native peoples´ cultures and traditions only brings us, non-Natives, further away from our roots, from our own traditions, from fulfilling our ancestors´ hope of future people continuing their quest for a balanced world.
What I have learned from Native Americans is, above all, to be proud of who I am, where I come from, my land and my own traditions. It is a connection with everything living, a contract to take care of the machinery called Life. In the modern world we´d rather look at the future, thinking everything will be better when we reach an imaginary goal. But when chasing life, we forget to experience life. Because all of us can hear those messages in the wind, in the waves, in the forests – if we slow down. And if we listen with our hearts. That´s the only way to understand the beautiful gifts our ancestors left behind.
Everywhere on Earth there are sacred places from ancient times, many of them forgotten and neglected, so much in need of reviving. They need our care. Above all, they need our love. That´s where we can go to contemplate and to meet our ancestors.
If we all understand this responsibility, respecting that other cultures have their own contracts with Grandfathers and Grandmothers, then we can heal Mother Earth together, knowing that people all over the world are doing their part in the wonder of Life. And then we can finally live in harmony.
Men bloggen ville annorlunda. Dessutom ...
Men hettan kommer nog a...
